About Karen Wilson Photography

Capturing the best in you

Forget the stuffy, staged family portraits of your childhood. I capture dynamic and authentic family memories that are a blend of fine art, photojournalism and portraiture.

About me

I’ve spent my whole professional life as a photographer, since graduating with my photography degree from RMIT in 1998.  It’s been my first love and my continuing passion.

I was born in the UK but moved to Melbourne as a teenager. One of my first jobs was as an assistant to poolside photographers at the Sydney Olympics. After I graduated, I flew to London to join a luxury cruise ship as their onboard photographer. Part of my role was to climb down the side of the ship whilst it was moving to a pilot boat and photograph the ship as it passed through places like the Panama Canal or the ice carvings in Alaska. It was a pretty cool job!

I met my husband on ship where he was the on-board editor, and after travelling the world for a while, we moved to Australia where I started Karen Wilson Photography, and our family.

People ask me how I work with young children and families. Well, I have four children of my own, so I know a thing or two about delicate negotiations, patience and laughter!

When I’m not in the studio, you’ll find me in my wetsuit swimming in the bay. This Brit just loves the city and beach — yes, even in winter!

Trust in a professional

I’ve been a photographer in Brighton East since 2000, working with loyal customers again and again. Watching families and businesses grow, and recording their milestones along the way.

Over the years, I’ve covered every style of photography, but I love the personality and intimacy of portraiture. It’s all about making you feel relaxed, at ease and comfortable. My clients trust that I’m open, genuine and dependable. And in that moment, that snapshot, I can capture something that lasts a lifetime.

I’m happy to shoot on location, and will bring my kit anywhere you need me. I also have a beautiful studio in Brighton East, which is a relaxed space full of natural light.

Couldn't speak more highly of Karen the person and the Photographer. Firstly , we chose Karen to photograph our Wedding back in 2010. Karen's nature and professionalism ensured we had so much fun and her knowledge of local beauty spots were amazing. Secondly , we thought we would re-kindle the relationship only recently to perform a Family photo shoot for us as a Mothers Day gift. They say that working with kids can be challenging lol, but Karen made the session so chilled out and fun for all of us. The quality of photo's on both occasions were astounding and have given us memories and pictures for life.

Let’s see how we can work together.
